Power to remain on from dusk to dawn

SRINAGAR: The state government on Wednesday declared uninterrupted power supply to Kashmir valley during the evening hours in the ensuing holy month of Ramzan with the damage caused to the power system to be repaired on war footing basis.

Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD) said that a high level meeting was held in Srinagar to discuss the measures being taken in the holy month of Ramzan to ensure no erratic power supplies are witnessed in Kashmir valley particularly at the time of Sehri and Iftaar.

Power Minister Dr Nirmal Singh in a meeting also directed the PDD to ensure nomore power cuts are witnessed in Kashmir valley during Ramazan besides making sure that the areas wherein damage has been caused to the power system be rectified sans any further delay.

PDD chief engineer said that from 7 P.M to 5 A.M, there will be hassle free power supplied to the people during the Ramazan month and that no cuts will be anymore witnessed during these times. The Iftaar and Sehri times are scheduled between 7 in the evening till 5 in the morning. During Tarawis and other special prayers, people will witness a complete hassle free power, Khan added.

He remarked further that special teams of PDD have been constituted to rectify the damages caused to the power sector in various areas. Besides that, a team of PDD employees will continue to monitor the situation so that if during incessant rains and winds, the power supplies are snapped, be restored immediately. (KNS)
