JAMMU: There is no respite from hot weather conditions in this winter capital of the state as mercury once again reached 40 degrees Celsius today.
“The temperature today remained 39.
5 degrees and it was the another hottest day,” a Met official here said.
He said the temperature will rise in the coming days.
Schools in Jammu province had already closed for summer vacations in view of prevailing climatic conditions from June 13 to July 27.
People, however, preferred to stay indoor while the two-wheeler riders covered their face to protect themselves from the heat.
Protests also broke out across the district over erratic water supply and unscheduled power cuts.
An official of PHE department said presently there was shortage of 20 lakh gallons of water per day across Jammu district despite supply of water from major plants.
Water Tanks have also been pressed into service to areas facing acute water shortage in this scorching heat.
However, the trader community in Jammu including jewelers, cloth merchants and others have also called for four-day shutdown of markets due to hot weather conditions.
Himachal continues to sizzle
SIMLA: Himachal Pradesh continued to experience hot weather on Wednesday with the day temperature crossing the 40-degree-mark in low hills, the weather office said.
Una town was hottest in the state with a high of 40.4 degrees Celsius.
“Temperatures remained on the higher side in the state due to lack of rainfall,” an official of the meteorological office said.
He said the maximum temperature in the state increased by five to six degrees in the past 24 hours, while the minimum showed a one-to-two-degree rise.
Sunder Nagar in Mandi district recorded a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius while Dharamsala, the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, was 31.2 degrees and Kalpa 25 degrees.
State capital Shimla was hot at 27.5 degrees, three notches above the season’s average, while the night temperature was 16.2 degrees. On Tuesday, the day temperature in Shimla was 26.3 degrees.
The Met department said the weather would largely remain dry till Saturday and there are chances of rain on Sunday and thereon.
