Hurriyat Factions Issue Joint Protest Calendar
SRINAGAR: For the first time after 2010 protests, the divided factions of Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Monday issued a joint protest calendar against the target killings in Sopore and urged people to observe a shutdown on Wednesday and march towards Sopore on Friday.
Separatist leaders in three separate statements announced their program. They blamed the Indian secret agencies for the killings.
After consultation with the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF and Shabir Ahmad Shah, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has appealed for state-wide shutdown on June 17, Wednesday and appealed people to reach Sopore on 19 June Friday to protest the bloodshed of the innocent and common people by the secret agencies and to show a solidarity and unity with the families of the killed people, a statement by Hurriyat (G) said.
Hurriyat Conference faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said: After joint consultation with regard to the serious situation arising due to the continuous cold blooded murder of innocent civilians in Sopore, Hurriyat (M), Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and JKLF appeals people across Jammu and Kashmir to observe complete strike on Wednesday, 17 June, 2015 to protest these gruesome killings. It was further decided ,that on Friday June 19th pro freedom leadership including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohammad Yasin Malik would visit Sopore to express solidarity with its resilient residents and jointly lead a protest rally against these gruesome killings.
Kashmiri leadership would not sit as a mute spectator over the spilling of blood of innocent people, the statement issued by Mirwaizs faction said.
The JKLF chairman said the calendar was issued in order to protest the bloodshed of the innocent and common people by the secret agencies and to show a solidarity and unity with the families of the killed people.
