SRINAGAR: Minister for Law, Justice, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari today set into motion the process for implementation of World Bank funded $250 million flood management and protection plan for Jhelum and Tawi rivers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairing a high level meeting here today to review the implementation of the project, the Minister said that as per the WB guidelines a three-tier mechanism is being put into place for the effective implementation of the project.
He said at the apex level, a Steering Committee headed by the States Chief Secretary has already been constituted to monitor and assess the progress of project. He said at the middle level Project Management Unit (PMU) has been established in the Relief and Rehabilitation Department while at the cutting-edge level Project Implementing Entities (PIEs) have been setup in Irrigation and Flood Control, R&B, SMC and Industries and Commerce departments as implementing agencies.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of measures taken for disbursement of relief under PMRF, CMRF and SDRF besides temporary restoration of public infrastructure devastated by September 2014 floods.
