Srinagar: Islamic Students League (ISL) patron and senior Hurriyat leader, Shakeel Ahmad Bakshi has been lodged in Central Jail here in connection with a 8- year old case.
His brother and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader, Showkat Bakshi, told news gathering agency, GNS over phone that Shakeel was arrested yesterday from Lower Court and was shifted to Central Jail.
He has been sent to 5 day judicial remand in connection with a case of year 2007. Besides Shakeel, there are 13 more accused in the case, Showkat said, adding that the next hearing for the case is on 16th of June.
Earlier, rumors were doing rounds that Shakeel was arrested in connection with his recent statement in which he asked Hurriyat and militant leadership to refrain from issuing edicts or Fatwas against resistance groups and slammed them for slanderous campaign against militants on ground.
