Srinagar – Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde took time off from his busy schedule to go shopping in the Civil Lines area here Saturday evening.
Accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior police and civil officers, Shinde went to the Polo View shopping centre to buy handicrafts.
He later drove along with Abdullah through the historic Lal Chowk.
It is for the first time since separatist violence started here in early 1990s that any VVIP from the central government went shopping like a common man in Srinagar.
Life remained normal in the Civil Lines area during the home minister’s shopping trip.
Many people were amazed to see the country’s home minister shop in the city without any extra ordinary restrictions being placed on civilian movement here. (Agencies)
