Srinagar- Government on Tuesday placed the principal of a government school in Srinagar under suspension, hours after he was arrested by the police for allegedly molesting and harassing girl students within and outside the school.
Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Gund Hassibhat on the city outskirts was arrested by the police on the allegations of molesting girl students.
A formal case FIR No 31 under IPC sections 354D (stalking), 294 (obscene acts in a public place) and 506 (criminal intimidation) stands registered at police station Shalteng in this regard and the accused is under police custody at the moment.
Police have identified the accused principal as Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir of Zadibal Srinagar.
The arrest comes days after some parents filed a complaint, alleging that the accused principal was not only harassing girl students during the school hours, but was also making late night calls to them.
Srinagar police in a tweet while confirming the arrest of the accused principal said “Shabir Ahmad Mir S/o Gh Rasool Mir R/o Zadibal, Srinagar working as Principal of Govt HSS Gund Hassi Bhat arrested in molestation case. FIR no 31/2023 U/s 354D, 294 & 506 of IPC registered at Shalteng PS”
Meanwhile, taking strong note of the incident, the principal secretary to the government school education department, Alok Kumar ordered immediate suspension of the accused and asked director school education (Kashmir) to conduct an enquiry into the matter and submit a detailed report.
The accused principal according to the order was attached with Director School Education pending enquiry into the allegations.
“Pending inquiry into his conduct, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Mir, Principal Government BHSS Gund Hassi Bhat, Srinagar is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect in pursuance of Rule 31 of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956. The said officer is attached with Director School Education Kashmir,” the order reads.
