Shakeel Qalander appointed as new CEC
SRINAGAR: Following completion of the term by its present dispensation, Valleys sole apex organisation of industrial entrepreneurs, Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) is set to go for fresh elections in near future. The process of the elections was today declared open by Chief Election Commissioner of the organisation Shakeel Qalander who assumed the charge a few days ago.
FCIK is an amalgam of various industrial associations across Kashmir valley formed by entrepreneurs in industrial estates, districts and identified lines of activity. The elected presidents of these individual organisations are nominated to the executive council of FCIK where members take collective decision on issues confronting entrepreneurs and other policy matters.
Addressing the executive council members, CEC Shakeel Qalander said that full participation of entrepreneurs in the ensuing elections shall be ensured in order to get honest and capable members elected who could dedicate themselves towards the goal of economic self reliance fixed by FCIK. Giving details about the election process, he said that all the affiliated associations shall in the first instance dissolve their present bodies and declare fresh elections for their associations. The associations shall nominate three member election commissions that would work under the supervision and guidance of CEC FCIK. The term of all associations shall be kept for two years at par with FCIK. Whereas the enterprises set up in industrial estates shall have the voting right to elect members for their association, the enterprises in unorganised sector in each district will elect their bodies he said adding that only those associations in lines of activity shall be considered for giving representation in FCIK that has its base in all districts and estates across the valley.
Besides choosing representatives for the executive council, the entrepreneurs shall also elect representatives for the General council of FCIK in the ratio of 1:10 subject to the maximum of 10 members each estate, district or the line of activity, he said.
