SRINAGAR: Weather in Jammu and Kashmir has hindered the growth of fruits, leaving the farmers high and dry.
According to the farmers, the weather is not conducive for apples, cherries and strawberries which are mostly harvested in these days.
“The weather has damaged the growth of apples and cherries. In earlier years it never happened like this. We don’t know the reason for it,” said Nasir Ahmed, a farmer.
Kashmir Valley has witnessed strange weather, with two days of sunshine followed by rains and dip in temperature.
The maximum temperature has not gone above 18 degrees Celsius and the state instead needs dry spells.
The weather department says the frequent western disturbances have led to rainfall and low temperatures, which would improve soon.
“At present, there is western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. But weather will start improving from tomorrow onward. Weather is expected to be dry on May 27 and 28,” said Jaspal Sharma, a meteorological department official.
