Ministry Has Become Worse Than Harlotry
Srinagar – Irrigation minister Taj Mohiuddin today strongly refuted land-grab charges levelled at him in the legislature, saying he would quit his ministry if found in illegal possession of even a single marla.
Emerging from the house amid uproar, Mohiuddin cursed ministers posts as worse than harlotry for being easy targets for anybody, and said that the land in question in Sidhu, Shopian was his legitimate property transferred to him under the Roshni Act.
Rafig Shah has resorted to lies just to gain cheap popularity, the minister told newsmen. Just because hilly land is thickly wooded does not prove that it is forest land.
He said that he would bring a motion against Shah over the allegations he had made in the house, producing his own set of documents.
The land was consolidated in 1983, and I am in possession of the record. The plot has been under me since 1970, is far away from forests and has been transferred to me under the Roshni Act, he said.
When asked why he opposed a House Committee probe, Mohiuddin said that the matter had been investigated by the Accountability Commission too in 2004, and nothing had been proved.
I had got Shah expelled from the Kupwara District Board meeting for kicking up a ruckus, and that is probably why he is trying to malign me, he said.
Minister-ship has become worse than harlotry. Anyone can sling mud on any minister, he said. (Observer News Service)
