Srinagar- As the countdown has begun for the working group meeting of tourism delegates from G20 countries in Srinagar, all prioritized projects under the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) will be completed before the mega international event, top officials said.
Most of the projects prioritized for the upcoming G20 tourism track meeting stands completed, while rest of the pending projects will be completed days ahead of the major international event, scheduled to take place at Sher-e- Kashmir International Convocation Centre (SKICC) on May 22 and 23.
It’s worth mentioning that the administration is sprucing up Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, by illuminating electric poles with LED lights and lighting up significant structures and shrines in the G20 motif.
The move to beautify Srinagar city is aimed at welcoming the tourism track delegates from 19 G20 nations, who will be attending the first ever major international event in Srinagar under India’s G20 presidency.
Lal Chowk’s Ghanta Ghar or clock tower that undergoes a major facelift under the project will be completed in next 4 to 5 days, while Jhelum left RiverFront will be inaugurated in next few days.
Work on certain road stretches in Srinagar including M.A Road, and Residency Road will be completed before the G20 event in Srinagar, beginning on May 22.
Athar Amir Khan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Srinagar Smart City Ltd, said that LED lights have been installed in major structures including the Press Enclave buildings and Arts Emporium at the Residency Road and SPS library at Lal Mandi.
Khan, who also heads SMC as commissioner, said the buildings featuring colourful LED lights would light up in G20 motif, while illumination process of electric poles in Srinagar has also been completed.
“Polo-View Market stands inaugurated, we had some stretches of M.A road to finish, which have also been completed. The Left River-Front will be inaugurated before the G20 meeting and the work on Ghanta Ghar will also be completed before the event. All prioritized projects under G20 will be completed before May 22,” Khan told Kashmir Observer.
