Srinagar): German Ambassador in India Michael Stiener on his concluding day of Kashmir visit interacted with a group of fine arts students at Hyderpora where these students are painting murals on the walls of Srinagar to bring alive the regions culture and splash colours on the local environment.
In a statement SMC PRO Masrat Yosuf said Stiener was accompanied by Commissioner SMC Tufail Matto and other officials.
Stiener while interacting with students said that painting these murals is certainly a positive initiative which shall help in reviving the Valleys rich culture and traditions amid the glitz of modern-day lifestyle and shall create some space for creative work as well. These murals are a small step in beautifying and making city more presentable which needs encouragement added Stiener.
To begin with, the SMC has started a pilot mural painting project in uptown Srinagar. We want youth to know about their history, culture and past traditions through this public art. We got in touch with some well-known artists and started the work, SMC Commissioner Tufail Matoo told Stiener.
He appreciated SMC for giving this opportunity to the students in depicting the culture and tradition of Kashmir by painting these walls and stressed that such practice was common in Germany and it is heartening and delightful to see that same being replicated here.
