SRINAGAR- Downtown Heroes FC defeated table-toppers Jagat Singh Palahi Football Academy 1-0 on Thursday at Synthetic Turf TRC in an I-League 2 matchup.
Downtown Heroes’ Tripura-born forward Parvaj Bhuiya scored the game’s decisive goal in 64th minute to send the team into jubilation. The Srinagar-based football club then held on to their slender lead to see off their Punjab-based opponents and earn a vital victory.
The win lifted the Heroes into second place of the Group A standings, taking 13 points from seven matches. Jagat Singh Palahi remained top, with 13 points from six games. Breathing down the Heroes’ neck is Delhi Football Club, who have taken 12 points from six matches.
The Heroes, led by veteran coach Hilal Rasool Parray, next play Delhi Football Club on April 29 in a must-win fixture. The match will be a home game for Downtown Heroes and will take place at Synthetic Turf TRC. It will be the final group game for the Heroes and a win would secure them a place in the next stages of the competition.
