Says, Director Health holding position despite corruption charges
SRINAGAR: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Sunday alleged that tall claims of state government to weed out corruption have fallen flat as it has failed in its promise to remove corrupt officials and replace them with honest ones.
In a statement President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan alleged that Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman continues to hold his position despite a criminal case has been registered against him by State Vigilance Organization (SVO) for his involvement in Drug kits scam.
SVO has registered a criminal case bearing FIR No 32/2012 against Dr Saleem under the prevention of corruption act for his involvement in Drug kits scam. The majority of drug kits were purchased from a private firm in violation of conditions of supply order and guidelines of government. The incumbent director was instrumental in procuring spurious drugs and supplying these to various hospitals across the valley. When spurious drug supply to valley hospitals was unearthed people were shocked but Dr Saleem announced that people should not raise hue and cry as spurious drugs are common worldwide phenomenon, he said.
Dr Saleem should have been in jail for his criminal activity but he enjoys impunity as corruption in valley is encouraged with a design.Kashmir has a notorious distinction of being one of the most corrupt states where corrupt officials are unaccountable and in fact are shielded. This can be gauged from the slackness in disposal of cases against corrupt officials by SVO, the premier anti graft body, Dr Hassan claimed.
SVO, rather than getting corrupt officials punished is publicizing cases registered against them and after years of tardy investigation end up in closure of cases. There is an open loot of public money by corrupt officials who have accumulated huge wealth which was to be utilized to mitigate the sufferings of poor people, he added.
