Asks officers to focus on sanitation, revenue realization
Srinagar, May 15 (KNS): Minister of State for Industries & Commerce, Power Development and Housing and Urban Development, Mohammad Ashraf Mir today chaired the maiden meeting with the Executive Officers of Urban Local Bodies of Kashmir division.
On the occasion a power point presentation was made depicting scheme wise achievements of development works made by the Department and Financial/Physical Progress of IHSDP, Urban Infra-Structure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) and various centrally sponsored schemes during 2014-15.
The Minister said that the concept of civic bodies at the grass root level is to raise peoples participation in improving and achieving the objectives of sanitation, water supply, solid waste management, checking of adulteration in Food items and other civic amenities/services democratically by way of exploration and utilization of the available resources at the local level.
The Minister while highlighting the role of Executive Officers said that every Executive Officer is like a Municipal Commissioner in his own area. Therefore it is the responsibility of Executive Officers to safeguard the health and hygiene of the urban people.
The Minister said the system needs to be revived so that we may work as a team and stressed upon the officers to focus on generating revenue realization, checking of illegal occupants, proper sanitation facilities and dog menace. He said that work must be visible on ground and there must be a uniform dress code for field staff.
Mir said that the Department will identify land for dumping sites and suggested conducting a tour programming outside the state so that the officers may learn the various techniques used in solid waste management.
President Executive Officers Forum Anis Ahmad Choudhary presented a memorandum to the Minister regarding their various demands like lack of supervisory staff, Safaiwalas etc.
The Minister gave them patient hearing and said that all their genuine demands will be looked into and said that all the vacant posts will be filled up in a time bound manner.
Director Urban Local Bodies, Hilal Ahmad Parray besides senior officers of the Urban Local Bodies Department were present on the occasion.
