Compelled by JKs political system to practice outside: Medicos
Srinagar: As the state authorities on Friday issued fresh warning to the medicos practicing outside of the state and asked them to return or face music, doctors say they are being compelled by the political system of J&K to leave and work outside.
Dr. Lateef, a leading pediatrician of Kashmir valley who at present is in Europe said over phone he is ready to return but the facilities he deserves must be given to him. The government in Jammu and Kashmir treats us like labourers. There is no merit and no qualification required to be accorded the facilities- it is the political approach that works in JK. Here in Europe, medicos are respected and given their deserving places, said Dr Lateef.
Tariq Hassan, a neuro surgeon said that he would love to practice in Jammu and Kashmir and serve the people of the region with best of his abilities. But the political interference into the system has gone deep in the state and has collapsed everything. One wonders that how could a democratically elected government allows such an ill treatment be meted out to the doctors. It is a noble profession but the fact is that medicos are considered no less than a cannon fodder in Jammu and Kashmir. There are no facilities in hospitals and absolutely no concept of the super specialty in Jammu and Kashmir, said Dr Tariq.
There were scores of others who revealed that due to the political approach, postings and transfers are done and merit is ignored. The aggrieved medicos who have left Kashmir valley said they were compelled by the circumstances created by political parties to leave.
Another leading Urologist hailing from Kashmir Dr Sajjad said that once the medical system of Kashmir and Jammu gets well, not only the native doctors but even the outsiders would strive to practice in Kashmir valley. He added that there are serious lapses and blunders committed in the system and that the government must take measures immediately to rectify the errors.
Meanwhile, health department in Jammu and Kashmir here on Friday issued circular to more than 300 doctors, who left valley. The government has asked them to return within two weeks time or face the music. KNS
