250 students accommodated in a single room
Srinagar: Coaching centres in Srinagar have once against started taking students for a ride. Despite charging exorbitant fees the centres have failed to put in place basic facilities including proper classrooms.
Mincing no words students criticized the functioning of Kashmir Institute of Excellence coaching centre located at Parraypora Srinagar. Students alleged that more than 250 students are being accommodated in a single class room with capacity for less than 100 students.
Accusing authorities of acting as mute spectator to regulate the functioning of the said coaching centre, a group of students said that male and female students are clubbed together in small classrooms of this tuition centre. We are paying huge sum of money to get quality education but the owners have failed to put in place basic amenities, said a female student,
Aggrieved students alleged that hundreds of students in a hall are forced to sit together to attend a lecture. In such a situation, voice of teacher remains inaudible to students. And if loudspeakers are used, it seems as we are in some educational function rather than in disciplined class, said another student.
The aggrieved parents and students appealed government to take immediate measures to regulate functioning of the coaching centre.
They said the coaching centre is charging Rs 25,000 to 27,000 for each student for completing the syllabus and has become a money minting machine for its proprietor without providing basic facilities to the students.
Earlier, a committee was formed to address the genuine complaints of students and parents while a special squad was formed to carry surprise inspection of some coaching centers located in uptown area of Srinagar. But no official ever paid the visit in this coaching centre, the students said.
Terming the allegations baseless, in charge KIE said that there is no such problem at the Centre and it is a sheer attempt to malign the image of our coaching centre.
Director Education Showkat Ahmed Beigh assured action and said that he will constitute a team that will carry out surprise visits to these coaching centres. Nobody will be allowed to violate the norms, he said. (CNS)
