Jammu – Acting on the complaint of a consumer, the department of Legal Metrology booked M/s Bikano restaurant at city square mall for overcharging under Weights & Measures Act and rules made there under.
According to complaint consumer purchased tin of cold drink marked with MRP marked on the tin for Rs 22 but he was charged for Rs 44 without offering any additional service to him, accordingly the case was booked and after offender pleaded guilty and submitted undertaking not to overcharge again, the case was compounded for Rs 15000.00 and amount was recovered.
According to Mr Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller, in other 2 cases, one manufacturer from Delhi was booked for using stickers on towel packages for declaring mandatory declarations and other was booked for short delivery to consumers. Both were booked under different provisions and a sum of Rs 15000.00 was imposed and recovered from both the defaulters.
