Srinagar- The regional passport office (RPO) will take-up the issue of denying security clearance to various job aspirants with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police, a senior official said.
During an interaction with media, Regional Passport Officer (RPO) for Kashmir and Ladakh, Davinder Kumar said that he was aware about the denial of security clearance by CID to the youth who want to go outside for taking up jobs.
“I have noted down the issue. I will take it up with a meeting with the officials of CID,” he said.
However, Kumar quickly added that CID doesn’t have any personal issues with anyone and whosoever is involved in any criminal activities or has an FIR, is barred from getting a passport.
Notably, on March 5, The Hindu reported that the delayed or no police verification or adverse police reports have left hundreds of job aspirants who wanted to travel abroad in lurch.
Pertinently, the Regional Passport Office organized a special camp on Thursday where they handed over passports to over 700 Hajj aspirants in Srinagar.
Kumar, while talking to reporters, said he had sought permission from the central government to hold a special camp for Hajj aspirants.
He said that his office doesn’t delay issuance of the passports, but the applicants don’t complete the formalities and many times the documents are mismatched.
On being asked about the delay from CID for issuing Police Verification Report (PVR), Kumar said the delay is for those who are involved in any criminal activity or have an FIR.
“But if the FIR is on personal or land disputes, there shouldn’t be any hurdle in issuing the PVR,” Kumar added.
On being asked about the pendency of cases at present, he said from over 6000 cases in December 2022 to nearly 2500 cases, they have been trying hard to bring the number of pending cases to zero by the end of March.
About the rush in the passport office Srinagar, the RPO said they have provided all the services online but when the appointment of passport verification is being issued, the office witnesses the rush.
When asked about opening a few centers in North and South Kashmir to minimize the rush, Kumar responded that approval from a high level was required for such a move.
He further added that if anyone has any issues related to their passport, they should hesitate to reach out to the officials.
“We are here to resolve your issues, the people should come here and take up their grievances with us,” he added.
