THIS letter refers to “Women’s Day and Whataboutery” published on Kashmir Observer on 8th March. It goes without saying that women in all spheres of our society have proven their worth beyond any doubt and shown men that they are second to none. Corporate world, entrepreneurship, armed Forces, sports, politics, entertainment etc., in all areas women have shown their true mettle. But we need to introspect as to why on every International women’s day we have to talk about women empowerment and gender equality. Why can’t it be a norm in our society?
As far as their contribution in the corporate sector goes, are Indian Inc. grooming enough women from middle management for senior leadership roles? Answer would be a big No because there is a serious lack of representation of women leaders at the top in Indian Inc. And there is a huge gulf between women and men in rural areas, so we need to walk a long path.
