Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Sunday said that 20 ‘rakat’ (prescribed movements) will be offered at all Waqf administered mosques and shrines in the valley with Khatme Quran (recitation of holy Quran from beginning to end) during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
Waqf Board, which is the custodian of all major Muslim shrines and mosques in the Union Territory, will also enhance remuneration of Imams, Khateeb’s, Muazzin’s.
The decision in this regard was taken by the J&K Waqf Board Chairperson, Dr Daraksha Andarbi during a conference of Waqf Board Imam’s at Waqf head office here.
“20-Rakats Taraweeh with Khatme-Quran to be ensured at all shrines, Masjids during Ramadan” Andrabi tweeted.
She also said that those having encroached upon the Waqf land will face law in case they won’t turn up to the Waqf office for talks. The Waqf Chairperson also said that the board is mulling to perform congregational Nikah (marriage) of 1000 girls and the efforts in this direction are on.
She said Waqf was essentially established to lend a helping hand to the poor and backward section of the society.
“Today we called a meeting of all Imam’s at Waqf Board office and a threadbare discussion was held with all the representatives. We have decided to enhance the monthly remuneration of all Imams’, Khateebs and Muazzin of Waqf administered shrines and mosques by 30 percent,” she told reporters after chairing the meeting.
“Waqf belongs to the people and we are its caretakers, those who think will encroach upon its land or any property will face law, we will take legal actions in case they won’t mend their ways and turn up in the office without delay,” she added.
