Cricket in India is a massive sport that is played by millions of people, with professional and amateur status. The British brought cricket in the early 1700s, but the first club was established in 1848. Since then, we have witnessed many great talented players that have left a mark on the history of this sport.
However, we are still seeing amazing performances from Indian players who are set to become legends of the game. One such player is Ravichandran Ashwin, who not long ago, ranked as number 2 among all-rounders in Test Cricket and number 2 among bowlers.
Ashwin’s Amazing Achievement and India’s Massive Win
At the moment, the 36-year-old Ravichandran Ashwin is ranked in the 2nd position in the Test bowler rankings, only 21 rating points behind Australian captain Pat Cummins. This amazing achievement was done inthe first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during a match-haul of eight wickets against Australia.
Ashwin managed 3 for 42 in the first innings and 5 for 37 in the second. Australia was bowled out for 91 in their second innings as of result of Ashwin’s five-wicket haul, which brought India an innings victory.
Many fans saw this victory, as well as Ashwin’s achievement not very surprising as their amazing performance was highly expected. Even bettors were backing India in this clash. Many of them were placing bets from a reputable sportsbook like this one.
In the meantime, India remains at the 2nd position in the standings where the next objective for them is to beat Australia once more in order to reach the top spot.
It is worth mentioning, that India managed to displace Australia earlier that day and reach the pinnacle of Test rankings. This makes them only the second team in cricket history to be ranked on top in all 3 formats.
But, that didn’t last long, as, by the evening, the Aussies were back as No. 1 in the ICC ratings. It is believed that this was only a technical glitch on their website and India was never meant to be on top.
If India beats Australia in the next Test in New Delhi, then they will definitely reach the top spot and this won’t be a technical glitch one more. Winning this clash will also mean that their chances of reaching the World Test Championship final in June are pretty high.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s Career So Far
Ravichandran Ashwin is playing on the highest level for quite a while now, which can be seen in his stats, achievements, and trophy cabinet. He made the cricket world aware of his presence with his smart and street-smart moves in shorter form in the IPL.
But, after his debut in 2011 in the Test match against West Indies, he has made a new habit of picking up wickets. This was mostly the fact during dusty and dry conditions that supported his turn.
He becomes known in the shorter formats of the game, especially in T20 cricket where his shrewdness and accuracy have made him a reliable bowler. After that he quickly becomes India’s premier bowler, filling the boots of Harbhajan Singh and a few more.
Ashwin is by far the fastest Indian bowler to reach all wicket marks from 50- to 450- in Test cricket when it comes to the number of innings.
He also holds the spot for the highest-ranked Test bowler in India and the highest-ranked spinner in Test cricket. So far, Ashwin has won nine Man of the Series awards in Test Cricket, the highest number that any Indian cricketer has ever won.
This remarkable player is also known for scoring 5 Test centuries with the highest score of 124. In 2016, Ashwin was named ICC Cricketer of the Year, which is considered to be the most prestigious award in the world of cricket that is also known as the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
For the season 2016/17 he was also named CEAT Internation Cricketer of the year. Ravichandran Ashwin was part of the winning Indian team that lifted the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup trophy. He also won two back-to-back Indian Premier League Champion titles in 2010 and 2011.
