Srinagar- Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Biduri Saturday said the formal order ‘exempting’ poor from the ongoing demolition drive will be issued, when there is a ‘comprehensive’ policy in place.
Talking to the reporters during his visit to city center Lal Chowk here to review ongoing projects being undertaken under the Smart City mission, Bidhuri said everything is taken into consideration by the government before taking a final call.
“Government is working on it as this is a policy matter and when the government frames a policy everything is taken into consideration, including welfare of people. This drive too was launched for the welfare of the people,” he said, replying to a query whether any formal order will be issued for the poor, having raised residential structures on small patches of state land.
The Div Com also said the government before taking a decision always makes sure that there should be no room for questions.
“Like if someone has built a structure on five marla land at Lal Chowk, questions will certainly be raised as to why the same was not retrieved despite being so expensive. So policies are devised after taking everything into consideration”
Contesting claims that houses of the poor were bulldozed as part of the demolition drive, Div Com said nothing of the sort was witnessed anywhere in the Valley.
Bidhuri also reiterated Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s assurance that the poor will not be touched during the drive.
“If LG Sahab has assured that nothing wrong will happen that means nothing will happen, be sure about it,” he said. He also said the administration is implementing LG’s directions in letter and spirit.
