Police Says Deceased Had Strained Relationship With Wife, All Angles Being Probed
Srinagar- The mystery over the tragic death of a baker in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district further deepened on Tuesday after police revealed that the deceased man had a strained relationship with his wife.
35-year-old Shabir Ahmad Rather was charred to death inside his car in Panzgam village of Kokernag during the intervening night of February 12 and 13. Initially the death was believed to be accidental, but the ongoing police probe is looking at the case beyond it.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Observer on Tuesday that the man went to sleep inside his Maruti van following a heated argument with his wife at their house in native Panzgam village.
“Actually, Rather’s car suffered a dent apparently due to an accident while his kids and wife were onboard. When he reached home, his wife started grilling him and the couple had a heated argument,” said the police officer, wishing not to be named.
Rather, he said, took a blanket and firepot from his house and went to sleep inside his car.
“It was in the dead of the night that the vehicle caught the fire and he was charred to death,” the officer said, adding. “It’s either an accidental death or a suicide”
The officer further said that Rather’s body was taken to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Knag for medico-legal formalities. He also said that police have questioned many people, including Rather’s family as part of its investigations.
“We have done the postmortem and the FSL details are pending. Everything will be cleared once the report comes,” the officer added
