SHOPIAN- Jasia Akhter, a female cricketer from Shopian district of Kashmir Valley, was on Monday selected by Delhi Capitals for Rs 20 lakh in the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction.
Jasia is a right handed batter from Braripora area of Shopian, but has been plying her trade in other states of India. Currently playing for Rajasthan Women, the 34-year-old has captained the side on numerous occasions. She has also played for Punjab Women and India ‘D’ team.
In the recently concluded Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, Jasia was the second highest run getter.
“In order to purse my dream, I had to shift to Punjab for around 6-8 years and play domestic cricket where everyone was impressed with my performance. Last year I switched to Rajasthan and currently I am playing for them and have performed that I will likely to continue in WPL,” she told news agency KNO.
“J&K has scanty sports infrastructure as compared to other states,” she added.
Jasia Akhter has been performing consistently on a high level for a long time. Her performances have brought her close to India national team camp on several occasions, but she remains uncapped and hopes her efforts in WPL will earn a call up to the national team.
The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League will be be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 6, 2023.
