Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday took possession of a commercial building raised by a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader on state land in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The building belonging to Sofi Yousuf, Vice President, J&K BJP was seized as part of the administration’s intensified drive to reclaim the state and Kahcharai land from the encroachers.
Yousuf’s building in main chowk Srigufwara, which has 20 shops, was first seized by the Revenue Department as it was found that it was constructed on state land, officials said.
It was later handed over to the rural development department (RDD) for public use, they added.
According to officials, the building was constructed on an encroached state land measuring 25 marlas.
Meanwhile, Yousuf, a former MLC, has claimed that he is in possession of valid documents of the land on which the building has been constructed.
“Law is equal for one and all and I am not above the law. However, I have valid documents and I can produce the same in the court if need arises,” Yousuf told Kashmir Observer.
He further added that notices have been pasted on around 175 buildings including some residential houses, shops and Wakf building by the revenue authorities in the area.
