Srinagar- Two girls, including a minor were killed on Sunday after coming under an avalanche in Kargil district of Ladakh.
11-year old Kulsum Bano and 23-year-old Bilquees Bano were passing through Tangole village on Kargil-Zanaskar highway on Sunday afternoon when an avalanche hit the area burying both of them, Superintendent of Police Kargil, Anayat Ali Chowdhury, told Kashmir Observer.
He said a rescue operation was launched by the civil administration with the help of police, locals and volunteers of Baseej-e-Baqiyatullah and both the bodies were recovered.
“The rescue operation has been called off now and no more damage has been reported,” Chowdhury added.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhdev told Kashmir Observer that the administration has advised people not to venture out of avalanche prone areas of the region.
Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC-Kargil Feroz Khan has expressed grief over the deaths.
“Prayers for the two young lives lost in today’s avalanche at Tangole. Both the bodies have been recovered. The efforts of Ladakh Police personnel and volunteers of Baseej-e-Baqiyatullah (ASZ) are highly commendable” Khan tweeted.
