Srinagar- Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation & CEO Smart City Athar Aamir Khan in a series of tweets informed netizens about the status of redevelopment works that are being carried out in the Srinagar city under the Smart City Project.
Athar further informed that the Lal Chowk is at the heart of the City’s Development Plan.
Pertinently, authorities have drawn flak for haphazard construction works going in and around the city Centre. While the authorities have come under sharp criticism for carrying out works in harsh weather conditions, authorities say it is being done so that the projects are completed well before the scheduled time frame.
In a twitter thread, CEO Smart City Athar Aamir talked about the redevelopment works that are being carried out in the city center.
“Srinagar Smart City has taken up the redevelopment of the central business district of Srinagar including Residency Road, MA Road, Jhelum River Front, and the interconnections including Polo View, Regal, Jehangir Chowk, Chunthi Kul among others” Athar in a tweet said.
“Lal Chowk is at the heart of this redevelopment plan. These days the work is going on at all these sites- giving a dug up look to almost the entire city.”
He further said that in the entire Residency Road, underground drainage system has been completed, dedicated sewerage lines have been laid, the electricity and communication lines are being put underground through ducts, the junctions are being redesigned, the road carriage is being made uniform, proper organized & slotted spaces for parallel on street parking are being made.
“The footpaths are being redeveloped as per IRC standards to make them continuous and accessible, proper street lighting for vehicular and pedestrian movement, bus bays, green spaces, sitting spaces, recreational spaces & many more.”
Athar also informed that the iconic Ghanta Ghar is also getting a makeover.
“While these days construction is going on & a lot of inconvenience is being faced by the public & traders, I just wanted to remind and assure this is a collective effort in making our city better. We are doing our best to make sure that the projects are complete well before the scheduled time frame. That’s why this is probably for the first time that in our city at all sites the work is going on even in the harshest part of winter” the CEO tweeted.
