Srinagar: The Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Wednesday came out in support of the strike call for Friday by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) over the LPG crisis in the Valley.
The state government is compelling the Valley to take to the streets, the KEC said in a statement. This can lead to a severe law and order situation.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry is in complete conformity and support to the appeal of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) for a complete strike on Friday to demand the removal of the 6-cylinder cap on LPG supplies in view of the Valleys climatic conditions viz-a-viz the non-availability of alternative energy sources, the KCCI said this evening.
Traders, employees and civil society groups had staged protests earlier this week, holding marches in central Srinagar.
The Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (K-CSDS) too has demanded that the government streamline the new procedures announced for LPG distribution with a specific timeframe of one week.
At a press conference this week, the Centre threatened a mass agitation if the government failed to reform the registration formalities within this period. (Observer News Service)
