SRINAGAR- Five deaf Judokas of J&K have won five gold medals in the 25th Senior Deaf National Sports Championship held at Emerald International School, Indore, MP, held from 10th to 14th January. The championship also served as a selection camp for the upcoming Asia Pacific Deaf Judo Championship 2023-24 set to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The medallist Judokas include Rakhshinda Mehak above 78kg category, Nabeel Ahmad Dar below 73kg category, Vishal Khajuria below 66kg category, Rakesh Singh below 60 kg category and Shikha Kumari below 48kg category.
Of the ten Judokas selected to represent India in international championship, five Judokas are from J&K.
All the selected Judokas have been trainees of RCC Judo Centre, MA Stadium, Jammu since 2012.
Congratulating the medallists and those earning call to the national team, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gull while speaking to the coach Bhanu Pratap Singh over phone said that “you have made our chests swell with pride.”
Secretary Sports Council said that special coaching and training camps shall be conducted this year to train the players and this time around, the focus will be on the mental aspect of the game as well.
