SRINAGAR- J&K senior men’s cricket team took on Punjab in the 73rd Santosh Trophy on Tuesday at IS Bindra Cricket Stadium, PCA , Mohali.

Barely 3 balls after he had won the toss and decided to bat first, J&K skipper and opening batter Shubham Khajuria was bowled for 0 (3). Vivrant Sharma, who will play for SunRisers Hyderabad in the 2023 season of the IPL, steadied the ship for J&K by making 41 (45). His franchise mate, Abdul Samad, smacked a quick fire 45 (29) to top score for his team on Day 1.
Musaif Ajaz 10 (18), Shivansh Sharma 1 (13) and Abid Mushtaq 14 (25) failed to make any meaningful contributions with the bat, as Punjab bowlers Siddharth Kaul (3/58) and Baltej Singh (2/35) ran through J&K’s top order.
J&K wicketkeeper Fazil Rashid 26 (39) and Aquib Nabi 6 (26) were on the crease at stumps.
