Supply Line damaged due to landslides: PHE
SRINAGAR: Several areas of Srinagar including the Old City Down Town city are facing acute shortage of drinking water. According to the locals scores of areas are currently facing water crisis with locals accusing the PHE department of being indifferent towards their problems.
It has been 3 days now and we are still living without water. We dont even receive water from tankers, said a resident of Zaina Kadal. The residents of different localities from Srinagar city including Mahraj Gung and adjoining areas are up in arms, accusing the government of ignoring their plight at the time of dire need. The residents sought the intervention of Chief Engineer PHE.
When contacted Chief Engineer PHE Muzafar Ahmed Lankar said that the power canal line in Ganderbal which is the life line of Srinagar and where from water gets supplied has got damaged due to landslides. All but at 26 places the supply line has damaged due to landslides. We are removing the stones and mud and hopefully it will get cleared by Friday night and water to the affected areas will be supplied without any disruption, he said.
