JAMMU- Minister of State for Public Works, Mr. Sunil Kumar Sharma informed the House that 65 roads of Surankote constituency got damaged due to September 2014 floods which have been temporarily restored. He said similarly, 66 bridges were also damaged in the constituency and out of these, 47 partially damaged bridges were restored and the restoration of remaining bridges is under progress.
Replying to a question by Ch. Mohammad Akram in Legislative Assembly here today, the Minister informed that 43.60 Km long stretch of Mughal road between Bafliaz and Peer ki Gali falling in Surankote was damaged during the floods last year. He said the road has been restored for vehicular traffic after undertaking temporary restoration works.
The Minister added that Surankote to Sangle road is having a length of 10 Kms and out of this 4 Kms have been taken up for execution under PMGSY. He said this stretch has been completed in respect of stage 1st and stage 2nd. He said work is in progress but the pace of work has been hampered due to inclement weather in the area.
The Minister said that work on Phagla-Mandi road was delayed due to non-availability of funds for land/structure compensation coming along the alignment of the road, for which Rs. 9.49 Crore is required against which Rs. 20 lakh have been released during the current financial year. He said, however, efforts are being made for early completion of the project.
The Minister said that Rs. 75 lakh have been released for maintenance of Mughal road during current financial year. He said the matter regarding declaration of Mughal Road as National Highway along with construction of tunnel on the road has been taken up with Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, adding that approval is awaited.
The Minister informed that 15 road projects involving total cost of Rs. 7899.04 lakh have been taken up in Surankote constituency under PMGSY. He said so far Rs. 3921.62 Lakh have been expended on these road projects. He further informed that 7 road projects costing Rs. 1440.98 Lakh would be also taken in the constituency under PMGSY phase-X.
