Ganderbal- The departments of English and Chemistry of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised separate induction programmes for the newly admitted students at Arts Campus Duderhama and Nuner Campus respectively.
Inaugurating the 2-day programme in the English department, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah highlighted the prospects and potentials of NEP 2020 to prepare an effervescent manpower to tackle the challenges in nation building. He reiterated the need of transforming the university departments into centres of intellectual integrity and effective skill enhancement.
Addressing the students and faculty, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, enunciated that the centres of higher learning like Universities are ‘of the students, by the students, but for the society.’ Hence, the student community today, he said, needs to grow in the course of their studies in the university to be socially committed and responsible individuals.
Dean School of Languages, Prof. Md. Gayasuddin, impressed upon the students to utilise the resources for intellectual nourishment and brighter future. Department Coordinator, Mr. Sunil K Mannil, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Tajamul Islam proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ishrat Bashir was the moderator.
The inaugural was followed by an address by Prof. Saugata Baduri on Why Literature? in which, he explicated on the ways in which literature and arts help us develop love and empathy for the ‘other.’ Prof. GJV Prasad in another lecture on the ‘Aesthetics of Literature’ reflected on the hidden potentials of literature in the cross-cultural transference and translation of emotions which uniquely connects people across the world. Asst Librarian, Dr. Tariq Ahmed Shah, also delivered a lecture on library resources.
Meanwhile, in the induction programme of Chemistry Department, Dean, School of Physical & Chemical Sciences and Director, DIQA, Prof. Wali Mohammad Shah, Director, Science campus and Head, Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Abid Hamid Dar, Head, Department of Botany, Prof. Azra N. Kamili, faculty members, functionaries of the varsity, scholars and students were present.
Addressing the students, Prof. Shah highlighted the academic and other co-curricular activities of the university and emphasized on their expectations and requirements from the Department. Dr. Abid Hamid Dar said success has no short-cuts and anyone can achieve their dreams through dedication and perseverance. Prof. Azra N. Kamili, assured the students of all possible help from the university during and after the completion of their course. Dr. M. Nadeem Lone conducted the event and also proposed the vote of thanks.
CUK’s induction prog for law students concludes
The eight-day induction programme-(SIP-2022) organized by the Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) for the newly admitted students to B.A.LLB and LL.M programmes concluded at Tulmulla here.
During the programme around 20 resource persons representing diverse professional backgrounds such as judiciary, administration, academics, police, and medicine shared their experiences and insights with the newly admitted students.
Speaking at the valedictory function, Vice Chancellor, Prof Farooq Ahmad Shah highlighted the long-established practice of the university to organize such programmes and appreciated the department for taking the lead in following this practice in letter and spirit.
Former advisor to the Governor, Khurshid A Ganai gave a kaleidoscopic analysis of various issues that the future world is going to be identified with and elaborated on the question: how the students, scholars, administrators and law practitioners are going to fit into and successfully negotiate these changes.
In his speech, Dean SLS and Controller of Examinations, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, impressed upon the students to stay motivated and harvest the resources of the department and university to the best possible extent.
The fourth issue of the student magazine Mizaan- the Scale of Justice was also released on the occasion. Asst. Prof. Dr. Mudasir Bhat, was the programme convener. Deptt Coordinator, Bilal Ahmad Ganai proposed the vote of thanks.
