JAMMU: Minister of State for Transport, Mr. Abdul Ganai Kohli while replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Dr. Bashir Ahme Shah (Veeri) informed the Legislative Council today that, due to rain/snowfall severe damage has been caused to the existing road formation of NHW-1A at different places coupled with triggering of landslides at some vulnerable stretches, which forced the authorities to suspend the movement of traffic on National Highway to ensure safety, security of the passengers/ drivers.
The Minister said that in-spite of poor condition of NHW-1A at several stretches including Kheri, Magarkote, Gangro, Digdol, Himgni, Shaitani Nallah, Panthal and Sherbibi etc the movement of vehicular traffic is being regulated with great difficulty.
He said that the District Administration of Ramban has indentified points for accommodation of stranded passengers with 200 persons capacity each at Yatri Niwas Ramban, Community Hall Maitra, Gundalkote, Tethari, Nowgam, wherein the basic material like food, blankets, heating facility, drinking water while medicine were provided to the stranded passengers and drivers.
Similarly, at Udhampur various points were identified for accommodation and langers were setup with the assistance of local police and civil administration, he added, the Minister said that passengers were accommodated at Sharda Mata Temple, Kheri, Thrad, Bali Nallah, Samroli and Dharmalhal areas where in the basic facilities were provided to the stranded passengers and drivers.
