Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday placed a police officer under suspension, over a fortnight after he was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a man to settle a property dispute.
The suspension order of Varinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent Of Police (DSP) in the Crime Branch was issued by the Home Department.
“In terms of Rule 31(2) of the Jammu and Kashmir (Civil Services Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, Varinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Jammu, shall be deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from 11.11.2022, i.e. the date of arrest of officer in case No. FIR No.15/2022, U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in P/S Anti Corruption Bureau, Jammu,” reads the order issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Raj Kumar Goyal.
The order said the officer would remain attached to the police headquarters during the period of his suspension
According to the anti-graft body, the DySp was caught red-handed on November 11 from Trikuta Nagar while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant to favour him in settling a property dispute. The deal, the ACB has said, had settled at Rs 2 lakh.
