Srinagar- The State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Saturday grilled former Chairman of Hurriyat Conference Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat for nearly 8 hours after he was summoned by the probing agency at JIC Jammu in a case related to militant and Hawala funding.
Reports said that Bhat was summoned related to a case of militant and Hawala funding in which former minister Jatendar Singh alias Babu Singh was earlier arrested.
According to these reports Prof Ghani was questioned for nearly eight hours till evening at JIC Jammu.
According to news agency KNO, separatist leader revealed before his interrogators many facts regarding the money received from across the border by different Hurriyat leaders in the Valley.
Prof. Ghani heads Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference and in the past he has also served as chairman of the multi party combine twice.
Born in Botengo village of Sopore in North Kashmir, Prof Ghani studied Persian, Economics and Political Science at Sri Pratap College in Srinagar and then pursued his post-graduation in Persian and Law at Aligarh Muslim University.
He later taught at Sopore Degree college but was dismissed from the services in 1986 by the then administration of Governor Jagmohan for anti-national activities.
Prof Ghani rose to prominence in 1987 as spokesperson of the Muslim United Front which gave a tough fight to Congress-NC combine in the ill fated assembly polls that year.
