Srinagar- Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Junaid Azim Mattu on Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) of destabilizing the Corporation.
Junaid made these remarks while addressing a press conference at the Mayor’s private Residence. He said that if NC and BJP want to get into an alliance to destabilize Srinagar municipal Corporation (SMC) they should do it openly, why do it behind closed doors.
Junaid further said that in the past six months, he and Former Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran have enough evidence against National Conference leaders, who he accused of being corrupt to the core.
“We have horrendous and horrible proof against National Conference leaders and their sons. If those proofs are brought into the public domain, the leaders of the National Conference (NC) will not be able to contest elections. People will not even look at their homes,” Junaid said.
On one hand, we are being told that dynasty politics has no place in Kashmir, on the other hand some national political parties who are part of the political ecosystem get misled by these people, this is beyond my understanding” Junaid said.
He alleged that incumbent Deputy Mayor and NC leader, Parvaiz Qadri was involved in bribery as he has taken over Rs one crore and five lakh from the people so far.
“Enough proof has been given to the police in this regard, but, I don’t know for what reasons action is being delayed,” Mattu said
He further said that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was accused of doing developmental works in selected localities which is baseless.
“We had presented a macadamization programme of around 120 crores out of which works worth 40 crores were carried out. The entire city could not be covered in one year, it will be done in two years” he said.
Why developmental works in the city should be confined to Khanyar and Habba Kadal areas of the city, he said in an apparent reference to the NC leaders.
“We are being accused of macadamizing roads in green belts, Isn’t Ishbar Nishat a green belt. If roads are macadamized in Ashai Bagh and Saida Kadal localities, why do some political parties make an issue out of it” he questioned.
He alleged that some representatives are forcing him to sign the illegal documents and also allow the illegal activities within the City.
Junaid was flanked by former Deputy Mayor SMC Sheikh Imran and others.
