SRINAGAR- J&K senior men’s cricket team defeated Odisha by three wickets on Saturday to go level at the top of the Elite Group D table.
J&K won the toss and decided to bowl first at the MCA Cricket Ground in Mumbai.
The Odisha batters stuttered in the early stages of the match and were 38/2 after 7.2 overs. However, opening batter Abhishek Raut 75 (99) was ably supported by Kartik Biswal 47 (73) and Rakesh Pattnaik 53* (31) to help Odisha post a competitive 268/6. For J&K, Yudhvir Singh took 3 wickets while Mujtaba Yousuf chipped in with 2 wickets.
In reply, the J&K batters got off to a great start and were cruising at 181/4 after 35.4 overs. The Odisha bowlers got wickets at regular intervals to pile the pressure on J&K batters. However, the J&K lower order batters held their nerve to reach the target with 7 balls left. J&K made 269/7 thanks to some brilliant batting by opener Shubham Khajuria 78 (77), captain Shubham Pundir 57 (61) and Sahil Lotra 44 (40). Tarani Sa took 3 wickets for Odisha.
The win took J&K to 16 points after 5 matches in the Elite Group D table, level with Punjab who have one match in hand. J&K next play Uttarakhand on November 23.
