SRINAGAR- J&K senior men’s cricket team on Thursday suffered an eight wicket loss to Punjab at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The J&K side came into the match on the back of three consecutive victories in the one-day tournament. However, they were totally outclassed by Punjab after being put into bat first.
The J&K side lost wickets at regular intervals, and would have been bowled out for a lowly total hadn’t it been for Shubham Khajuria 72 (78) and Shubham Pundir 58* (74) who held the fort to take J&K to a respectable 227/10 in 47.3 overs. For Punjab, Baltej Singh and Harpreet Brar took 3 wickets each.
In reply, the Punjab side cruised to victory in just 28.4 overs. Amolpreet Singh, who was recently released by Mumbai Indians, scored a blistering 101* (63) balls to lead his side to victory. Aquib Nabi and Yudhvir Singh took 1 wicket each for J&K.
J&K now sits second in the Elite Group D with 12 points from 4 matches. Punjab tops the group with 12 points from 3 matches. J&K will next face Odisha on November 19.
