JAMMU: 29 villages have been identified as unsafe to live in for people in the aftermath of the floods in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government today (Wednesday) said.
Replying to a question of Congress member Jahangir Hussain Mir in the Legislative Council here today, Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari said 29 village habitations; areas have been identified as unsafe following the floods last year.
“Out of which, three villages are in Poonch district”, he said.
The minister said that the three locations in two villages in Chowki Choura and one location in Surinsar in tehsil Jammu are unsafe, Hamelt Saddal and its surrounding area of village Panjar in Udhampur district, Seri halmet of Tanda, Mansoo, Kanjli, Kundra, Dera Badu, Kansar devigarh, Channa (Tejhaar), Hasote areas.
Among other places are Mulas and Jamslan areas in Reasi district, Hamelt Kachar Bass village Rakhjarog and hamlet Bhatas in Kishtwar district, village Chella/Dhangri and Upper Potha in Poonch district and Gund Tankipora, Zongalpora, Chambgund, Arrigupsoo and Asthai in Kulgam district are unsafe.
The minister further informed the House that 900 kanals and 5 marlas (112 acres) land has been identified for rehabilitation of affected families which includes 103 kanals (13 acres) in Udhampur district, 122 kanals and 2 marlas (15 acres) in Reasi district, 71 kanals and 13 marlas (9 acres) in Ramban district, 248 kanals and 10 marlas (31 acres) in Kishtwar district and 365 kanals (45 acres) in Kulgam district.
The minister said when the detailed land papers are received from various Deputy Commissioners and observations are clarified, the affected families will be rehabilitated at the safer places shortly subject to the availability of the funds.
4000 flood victims await NDMA relief
SRINAGAR While NDMA has released compensation amount to more than 18000 beneficiaries of last years flood, at least four thousand other continue to await the relief under Prime Ministers National Relief Fund (PMNRF) due to name mismatch or invalid account number.
According to the latest figures released by the NDMA on its official website, 18068 families whose houses were completely damaged due to the deluged have been paid Rs 1 lakh under the PMNRF.
Even though nearly two lakh residential houses have suffered damage due to the floods, the relief is being provided to those whose housespucca or kuchawere fully damaged by the deluge.
States Revenue Department has put the number of completely damaged houses at 2095210063 in Jammu and 10889 in Kashmir Valley.
At the same time, there are 4000 families whose cases are pending due to name mismatch or invalid account number. Among them include 740 families in Srinagar, one of the worst flood-hit districts in the state, followed by Rajouri (680), Jammu (641), Reasi (184), Bandipora (255), Budgam (110), Samba (71), Anantnag (73), Kulgam (55), Kishtwar (11), Doda (07) and Ganderbal (1).
There are also 135 cases where the NDMA has made the payment but it has failed at Bank level due to KYC Dormant.
According to official figures, there are 66,608 houses in Jammu and 133,356 in Kashmir region which were damaged due to the floods. Based on the severity of damage, the administration has separated it into three categoriesfully, severely and partially damaged.
