SKIMS security thrashes visitors, attendants stage protest

Srinagar: Attendants at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura (SKIMS) Thursday staged a protest against the inappropriate behaviour of security guards after they allegedly manhandled a person and later on thrashed another fellow mercilessly who tried to save the victims from their clutches.

Eyewitnesses said that large number of attendants assembled in SKIMS premises and demanded stern action against the Hospital security who according to attendants have been acting like goons, harassing the visitors on daily basis.

Over some minor issue, security guards near parking slot in the hospital started manhandling a visitor. When I tried to save him, they pounced upon me and started thrashing like cattle. They tore my clothes and dragged me as I was a criminal. When they came to know i am working for an Urdu Daily, they in a fit of rage smashed the front and hind glasses of my vehicle, said Khurshid Quereshi.

The attendants alleged that these security guards always behave like ignorant who are devoid of manners. These security guards humiliate and harass every visitor. It seems they are not accountable before anyone and have not been taught how to deal with the attendants, the protesters said.

They said that it was not the first incident in SKIMS, but recently, an attendant Hilal Ahmad Khan, who visited SKIMS for treatment of his son, was beaten up by the security guards outside the parking area.
