People have been receiving calls from a so called company claiming to represent AirTell Communications asking them to deposit money if they want a mobile tower erected in their premises.
I received the call from a phone number 00918459167962 and caller claimed to be representative of the Airtel Communications, New Delhi. He offered to install mobile tower at my premises against monthly rent of Rs 25000 through Citi Cash Debit Cards.
However the caller asked me to deposit Rs 7000 in advance for legal work and NOC processing.
When I asked them for official email id they provided only Gmail id raising my doubts.
There are hundreds of people who have recently received such calls in various parts of Kashmir Valley.
Such scams have taken place during past five years in other parts of India as well but this appears to be a new phenomenon in Kashmir valley.
There is every likelihood that many gullible people will fall prey to this gang.
I request Kashmir Observer to carry out investigation in the matter and provide guidelines and actual rental tariffs and procedures from telecom companies for tower installation.

KO investigation found out that there are touts who collect money from the landlords by promising towers in their land and buildings. The landlord is not required to pay any money to the tower companies.
The big companies which are erecting mobile towers are Indus Towers, Reliance Infratel, GTL and BSNL. All you have to do is to register your name and provide the details of the land and contact details to these companies. As and when they require land in your area they will get in touch with you. Do not pay any money to any middlemen. Deal directly with the mobile companies and tower companies.
