ATTARI: Hoping to extend its wings to South Asia, a 29 member delegation comprising of physically handicapped cricket players and officials of Pakistan Cricket Association for Physically Handicapped arrived in India via Attari land border on Tuesday to play a series of cricket matches with Indian cricket team of physically challenged players who had defeated Pakistan in all the 3 one day and 1 T 20-20 match held in Islamabad in June 2012.
Chairman of Association Abbas Hashmi told TOI that the team would play three ODIs and one T20 with Indian team at Faridabad from October 11 to 15.
“Despite several measures, still people of both nations are hesitant to visit other side of border, we need to get rid of this fear which is possible only with regular interaction and activities like holding sports competitions especially cricket which is favourite of both nations”.
He said Pak physical handicapped cricket team held match with Afghanistan team and defeated them. He also expressed hope that Indian team would visit Pakistan in December to hold regular cricket series.
Manager of team Nasir Mehmood said the boys had special abilities and would exhibit them in their matches with Indian team.
“The boys have been given extensive training and hopefully they will win the matches” he said. Captain of the team Mohammad Fayaz said they were not lesser in any means. ” we are here to level the series and we will ” he said.
A batsman with leg deformity Saqib Inayat said playing in India had always been dream of every cricketer which had been fulfilled. Abbas said that presently countries including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal had cricket teams of physically handicapped players but they wanted matches to be held in all South Asian countries.
