Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday evening held discussions with High Commissioner of Pakistan in New Delhi in which both discussed various aspects of Kashmir issue.
In a statement the Hurriyat (M) said, During the meeting they deliberated upon the current political scenario in particular about recently held foreign secretary level meeting between India and Pakistan and its fallout on the overall political environment of the subcontinent.
Mirwaiz, who is in New Delhi along with other Hurriyat (M) leaders to attend the Pakistan Day function at Pakistan High Commission, was invited for a dinner meeting by the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit.
While informing Mirwaiz about the progress in talks during the recently held meetings between the Indo-Pak foreign secretaries, Basit said that Government of Pakistan considers Kashmir as the core issue between India and Pakistan. He told Mirwaiz that the resolution of Kashmir would pave way for the cordial relations between the two countries and would lead to solution of other pending issues. Abdul Basit told Mirwaiz it has been the long held stand of Government of Pakistan that any negotiation process aimed to solve Kashmir would be a meaningless exercise without the inclusion of Kashmiris.
Terming the lasting resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the political aspirations of Kashmiris as the cornerstone of Government of Pakistan policy, Basit said the stakes and sacrifices of Kashmiris will not be ignored at any cost in the context of any talks focusing on Kashmir.
Asserting the position of Government of Pakistan, High Commissioner told Mirwaiz , that Pakistan will continue to extend Political, Diplomatic, and Moral support to the Kashmir cause. Abdul Basit assured Mirwaiz that Government of Pakistan considers the dignified resolution of Kashmir issue as inevitable for the lasting peace prosperity and stability of the entire region.
