Attacks on not only non-Muslims but also Muslim minorities have become a game-plan tactic of these terror groups, who in a daredevil manner feel it as their duty to bleed them.
What is happening in Pakistan in the form of terror backlash is despicable. The latest attacks on churches in Lahore, which killed more than 10 people on Sunday, confirms the perception that dreaded militants are out to further their nefarious objectives. This is so because the Army-led operation has restricted their operations and dealt a deadly blow. But they are not out, yet. An offshoot of Taleban, calling itself Jamatul Ahrar, has claimed responsibility for the church attack.
Attacks on not only non-Muslims but also Muslim minorities have become a game-plan tactic of these terror groups, who in a daredevil manner feel it as their duty to bleed them. This psyche, coupled with the cahoots that they have in the society, had emboldened them to the core. That is manifest from the speeches and threats that are delivered from several seminaries, including the one in Islamabad known as Red Mosque against whom former president Pervez Musharraf had launched a flush-out operation. The audacity of a handful of religious-cum-political leaders to challenge the writ of the state and the security forces is questionable, and what makes it more ironic is the silence that the authorities concerned maintain for a select number of groups and individuals by patronising them in one form or another.
The release of Zakiur Rehman Lahkvi time and again by the courts, and the inability of the authorities to arrest Maulana Abdul Aziz whose seminary owed allegiance to Daesh is a case in point. Last but not the least, the political twists that such criminal elements manage to get has literally halted the strides that the security forces had proudly made.
The political government in Islamabad has to make up its mind, and bestow all possible resources and powers to make the army operation a success against criminal elements countrywide. There shouldnt be any pick and choose if the menace of terrorism, extortion and political blackmailing has to end. –Khaleej Times
