SRINAGAR- The Jammu & Kashmir men’s football team was on Friday placed in Group II for the upcoming 76th Senior National Football Championship Santosh Trophy 2022. The semifinals and finals of the championship are scheduled to be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia.
The draw for the groupings were held on Friday, with the championship all set to be played in a new format as all 36 states battle it out for the ultimate honour.
The six teams that top their group, along with three best second-placed teams, will qualify for the final round of senior men’s national championship.
In the final round, the 12 best teams will be divided into two groups of six teams each, as they will subsequently play in a round robin format, before proceeding to the knockout rounds.
The 36 state FAs were also invited to bid for the hosting rights of the group stages and the final round.
Group II: Kerala, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Leh & Ladakh has been placed Group I alongside Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Tripura.
