Srinagar – The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has called for a general strike on October 12 as a token protest against the LPG cap and non-availability of cooking gas in the state.
This will be a token strike. However, if the government fails to respond to the protest, people will come on the streets to demand their rights, KTMF president, Muhammad Yasin Khan, said.
He demanded the government should ensure easy availability of cooking gas and firmly curb malpractices and black marketing in the most sought after mass consumption essential commodity.
It is the responsibility of the government to ensure easy availability of LPG to people. They should also ensure hassle free registration of new connections or renewal of old connections so that people dont suffer, he said.
The KTMF also criticized the government for not providing licenses to commercial LPG filling stations for vehicles, as registration for vehicles running on LPG were being provided the gas cylinders.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir Economic Alliance has extended full support to the strike call and asked the traders, transporters and shop keepers to suspend their business on Friday. (KNS)
