SRINAGAR: Both factions of the Hurriyat Conference Wednesday said that they would discuss the latest political development and then react.
When asked about the remarks made by the Governor NN Vohra over initiating dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said that the conglomerate will discuss the issue threadbare in its joint meeting of all three organs general council, executive council and working body. I can only tell you that we are meeting tomorrow and we will discuss all the latest political developments taking place in JK, India and Pakistan. We will make our decision public once we reach to any conclusion, till then, we cannot comment any further, Mirwaiz Umar said.
Governor NN. Vohra on Wednesday invoked Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying under the ambit of humanity dialogue with separatists would be initiated.
Hurriyat Conference (G) said it will discuss its strategy once the offer of talks is made to it.
It would be recalled that the erstwhile NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had initiated a dialogue process with all political groups including the Hurriyat Conference, in the spirit of ‘Insaaniyat, Kashmiriyat aur Jamhooriyat'”, said JK Governor NN Vohra while addressing the joint session of the state legislature today..
Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that the amalgam will discuss its next strategy in its advisory council, once the offer of talks is extended to the conglomerate.
Elaborating further, Akbar said that if the Hurriyat (G) is invited for talks for the the resolution of Kashmir, it will discuss the issue thoroughly before taking a final call.
Mirwaiz To Meet Pak Envoy on Sunday
Srinagar: A week after his meeting with the Hurriyat (G) leader Syed Ali Geelani, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit will meet Mirwaiz Umer Farooq in Delhi on Sunday and is expected to discuss ongoing efforts to bring back on track the stalled Indo-Pak dialogue process.
Basit had gone to the Delhi residence of Geelani last week and updated him about the talks between Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Islamabad earlier this month.
“Yes, I will be meeting the Pakistani High Commissioner on Sunday. We are very happy that the two countries have come back to the dialogue table,” the Mirwaiz said in Srinagar. He said Hurriyat Conference always wanted that the two countries should be talking and resolving all outstanding issues including Kashmir.
“We in Hurriyat believe that we can act as a bridge between the two countries in finding a lasting solution to the vexed Kashmir issue,” he said. The Mirwaiz faction of the Hurriyat has advocated negotiations between the two countries and has held talks with the previous NDA regime led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and UPA government of Manmohan Singh.
The separatists leaders have also been invited for Pakistan Day function in Delhi on March 23. The Narendra Modi government had cancelled Foreign Secretary-level talks in August last year after Basit had met Kashmiri separatist leaders ahead of meeting, ignoring calls by the Indian government not to go ahead with it.
However, after the BJP entered into an alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir, it was agreed that every stakeholder “irrespective of their ideological views and predilections” will be taken on board.
The alliance for agenda of the PDP-BJP said “coalition Government will facilitate and help initiate a sustained and meaningful dialogue with all internal stakeholders, which will include all political groups irrespective of their ideological views and predilections. This dialogue will seek to build a broad-based consensus on resolution of all outstanding issues of Jammu and Kashmir”.
