Parties Keep Cards Close to Chest; Hold Meetings to Finalize Strategy
SRINAGAR: Two days ahead of the Budget session of state Assembly, political parties are holding series of meetings to take final call over whether to support resolution on return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru being moved by the independent legislator.
Sources said that National Conference leadership has so far kept cards close to its chest with its leaders tight lipped over commenting on partys stand on the resolution. NC core group leaders are holding a crucial meet on Tuesday evening to discuss partys strategy over the issue, sources informed that the party leadership has been asked to present their opinion about whether NC sould support the resolution or not.
Surrounded by trouble seems the ruling party PDP which has so far only stated that it has a stated position over return of Afzal Gurus mortal remains. When asked whether the party would support the resolution, the PDP has limited its approach to let the resolution come mantra.
Congress, says its chief GA Mir, is holding a meeting of its leaders to discuss partys strategy for the coming assembly session. Mir said that so far the party has not decided whether to support Gurus resolution or not. The issue shall be threadbare discussed at the party meet wherein the final call will be taken, he said,
Meanwhile, the BJP with 25 MLAs in the house has already made its position clear, saying the party will not allow any such resolution to be tabled in the house.
Engineer Rashid submitted a resolution for budget session of Legislative Assembly on seeking return of Afzal Gurus mortal remains. He is also moving resolution to seek release of all political prisoners.KNS
